Characteristic and property

Physical Appearance: The Material shall be a free flowing liquid at ambient temperature, free from visible impurities.
Miscibility with Sea Water at Ambient Temperature………………………………………….Should be completely miscible.

Static Scale Inhibition Tests :

A. Test Conditions :

(I) Scaling Medium :

(a) For Calcium Carbonate Scale :
(i)    Calcium Chloride Solution: 14.67 g of Calcium Chloride (CaCl2 .21120) and 50 g of AR Grade Sodium Chloride (NaCl) dissolved in Distilled Water and volume made up to 1 litre.

(ii)    Sodium Carbonate Solution: 1.864 g of Sodium Bicarbonate and 50 g of AR Grade Sodium Chloride dissolved in Distilled Water and volume made up to 1 litre.

(b) For Calcium Sulphate Scale :
1. Calcium Chloride Solution : 40
g of CaCl2 .2112 0 and 20 g of AR Grade Sodium Chloride dissolved in Distilled Water and volume made up to 1 litre with Distilled Water.
Sodium Sulphate Solution : 
12 g Sodium Sulphate and 20 g Sodium Chloride dissolved in Distilled Water and volume made up to 1 litrewith Distilled Water. 

(c) Scale Inhibitor Solution prepared in Distilled Water on weight/volume basis.
(II)    Temperature: 65 ± 2 0C
(III)    Inhibitor Dose: 10 mg/litre 
(IV) Exposure period: 18 hours
B. Performance Evaluation :
(i)    For CaCO3 Scale: Mix 50    ml each of the two Incompatible Solutions I (a) (i) and I (a) (ii) containing scaling ions in presence of 10 mg/litre of Scale Inhibitor Sample and cure at 65 ± 2 0C for 18 hours under Stagnant Conditions. Calculate the Efficiency of the Inhibitor by comparing the result of the above Test with that of a Blank Test conducted without the addition of the Inhibitor.
Inhibition Efficiency of the Scale Inhibitor should not be less than 92%.

(ii)    For CaS04 Scale: Evaluate the performance as above, using Incompatible Solutions I (b) (i) and I (b) (ii) in place of I (a) (i) and I (a) (ii).
Inhibition Efficiency of the Scale Inhibitor should not be less than 92%.
Toxicity :
The firm should furnish results on toxicity of the product and certificate from Govt. of India Approved Agency that the product is not toxic for human consumption.
