Bactericide (Amine Type)


Description

It is Amine based Bactericide for control of mixed bacteria in both aerobic and anaerobic (including sulphate reducers) in fresh water, sea water and low brines.


Characteristic and property

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES: The Material shall be in the form of a homogenous, free flowing liquid at 24 ± 2 °C, free from visible impurities. 

Turbidity of the Neat Sample, NTU                                      : 5.0 (Maximum)
Miscibility of 1% (w/v)Sample in Fine Filtered Injection Water : Should be completely miscible.
Thermal Stability Test                                                            : Should be stable up to 90 ± 5 °C. 


Test for Functional Groups : 

Amine Group Test (Nitrous acid Test)              : Positive
Aldehyde Group Test  (Schiff’s or Tollen’s Test) : Negative                                                            


Compatibility Test :

Turbidity of the Filtered Injection Water treated with Other Water Injection Chemicals available in the Asset/Basin when mixed with 100 ppm of Bactericide Sample, NTU : 1 (Maximum)

Performance Test :

a) On Sulphate Reducing Bacteria : At the start of the test, the Sample Bactericide at 100    mg/ litre concentration in duplicate bottles, is inoculated with Sulphate Reducing Bacteria challenge i. e. 1% hioculum taken from a fully grown culture (Test Solution contains 8.9 ml Sterile Injection Water + 1.0 ml (1000 mg/ litre) Sample Solution + 0.1    ml Culture). Serial Dilution up to 10-4 dilution of the Sample taken from each of these bottles is carried out at the end of 4 hours Contact Time. Incubation is carried out for 28 days. Test is carried out at 35 ± 1    °C and at atmospheric pressure. 
None of the bottles should show blackening till the end of the incubation period.
None of the bottles should show turbidity till the end of the incubation period. 

b) On Aerobic Bacteria: At the start of the test, the Sample Bactericide at 100 mg/litre concentration in duplicate bottles, is inoculated with Aerobic Bacteria challenge, i. e. 1% Inoculum taken from a fully grown culture, (Test Solution contains 8.9 m/ Sterile Injection Water + 1.0 ml (1000 mg/ litre ) Sample Solution + 0.1 ml Culture). Serial Dilution up to 10-4 dilution of the sample taken from each of these bottles is carried out at end of 4    hours Contact Time. Incubation is carried out for 4 days (96 hours). 
Test is carried out at 35 ± 1    °C and at atmospheric pressure. 
None of the bottle should show turbidity till the end of the incubation period.
Clause to be stipulated in NIT :
(i)    The Manufacturer shall certify that the Bactericide supplied is stable during storage and transit and also that it does not require any gas blanket in storage. The Manufacturer should also certify that the Bactericide supplied is of surface active amine type.
(ii)    In case the Manufacturer/Supplier is offering Quaternary Amine Type Bactericide, the same should be indicated.
  

Applications

It can be used in batch or continuous treatment. The most economical methods of treatment is batching for three to six hours once or twice a week at 50-200 PMM depending on the severity of the problem. Advantagess

Toxicity and Handling

It can be stored in closed containers away from direct sunlight at ambient temperature. During handling, direct contact with human body is to be avoided. Safety goggles and gloves are recommended for safe handling. The spillage can be avoided with copious amount of water. On Ingestion/Eye contact with the product, medical attention should be sought immediately and the affected area be clean with plenty of water.
