Xanthan gum is a high molecular weight polysaccharide produced by viscous fermentation.
Its unique functionality compared to other commercial polysaccharides is provided by the Actual structure of the xanthum gum molecule. It is widely used as a thickener and stabilizer. Oil drilling and exploitation grade xanthum gum is specially produced mud additives for Oil drilling and exploitation. Being environmentally friendly and high efficiency mud additives, Oil drilling and exploitation grade xanthum gum has an excellent tolerance to the change of temperature acid, alkaline and salt. Meanwhile it can extremely increase the products penetrating ability and suspending performance to small solid materials, and reduce the pressure loss during drilling. This xanthum gum can not only fasten the well bore, but decrease the damage to oil formation. It can also greatly raise the efficiency of drilling, work over and completion. As a biotype oil Driver, Oil drilling and exploitation grade xanthum gum can improve oil extraction rate and utilization factor of natural resources. The more important point is that it can furthest and protect natural environment.

Rheological Properties :
Prepare 0.5% (w/v) Solution of the Sample in Distilled Water containing 4% (w/v)of Sodium Chloride (LR grade), by stirring in Hamilton Beach Mixer, at medium speed for 20    minutes.
Adjust pH in the range 8 - 9 by addition of 1NNaOH solution while stirring. Determine the Apparent Viscosity, Gel0 and "n" value (at 200 and 100 rpm) of the suspension at 24 ± 2 °C .
Apparent Viscosity should be in the range of 15 —25 cP.
Gel0 should not be less than 5.0 (lbs/100 sq. ft).
"n" value (at 200 and 100 rpm) should not be more than 0.4.

Cross Linking Properties: 

To 495 ml of Distilled Water, add 5 ml of 3% (w/v) Solution of Calcium Chloride (fused or LR grade) and to this solution add 0.5% (w/v) of the Sample, while stirring in Hamilton Beach Mixer at medium speed for 20 minutes. Add to it 0.2%(w/v) Chrome Alum Powder (LR grade) and stir further for 10 minutes. Adjust pH 8- 9 over a period of 20 minutes by slowly adding IN NaOH solution, while stirring at medium speed. Determine the Apparent Viscosity, Yield Point, Gel0 and Gel10 of the suspension at 24 ±2 °C.
Apparent Viscosity should not be less than 30 cP.
Yield Point should not be less than 30 (lbs/100 sq. ft).
Gel0 should not be less than 15 (lbs/100 sq. ft).
Gel10 should not be less than 30 (lbs/100 sq. ft).

Performance Test :

(i)    Prepare 0.5% (w/v) Solution of the Sample in Distilled Water, by stirring in Hamilton Beach Mixer, at medium speed, for 20 minutes. Adjust pH to 8 — 9 with 1N NaOH solution. Add to it 3% (w/v) of VISION approved Bentonite powder and stir further for 20 minutes. Determine its Apparent Viscosity, Yield Point and API Filtration Loss at 24 ± 2°C.
Record the Apparent Viscosity (cP), Yield Point (lbs/100 sq. ft) and API Filtration Loss of the treated bentonite suspension at 24 ± 2 °C.


 
(ii)    Transfer this Mud to Aging Cell and hot roll for 18 hours at 100 ± 5°C. Cool to 24 ± 2 °C and determine Apparent Viscosity, Yield Point and API Filtration Loss.
Apparent Viscosity of the treated bentonite suspension 5 (i) should not decrease after hot rolling.
Yield Point of the treated bentonite suspension 5 (i) should not decrease after hot rolling.
API Filtration Loss of the treated bentonite suspension 5(i) should not increase after hot rolling.


Borate Sensitivity Test :

Prepare 0.5% (w/v) Solution of the Product in Distilled Water by stirring in Hamilton Beach Mixer, at medium speed for 20 minutes. Add to it 5 mlof 20% (w/v) hot solution of Borax and stir for 5 minutes.
No stiff gel formation should take place.

Storage

Stored in original Drum and Bags under the condition of dry and 250c, a shelf life of at least 15 month will be achieved.
